The Bargiani cocktail mixing glass in two lines
The Bargiani cocktail mixing glass is the stirring glass of the collection NUDE designed with Giorgio Bargiani. It holds 530ml, stands 18cm tall and weighs 325g. It is mouth-blown lead-free crystal, with a pouring lip and a foot that lifts it off the bar top.
Who it is for
For the cocktail bar that stirs drinks in front of the guest and keeps the mixing glass on the front of the bar, in view. For the hotel bar and the restaurant with a list of classics, where Martinis and Manhattans are made at the trolley or at the table. For the caterer who sets up an aperitif station and wants a tool that sits next to the glassware without looking out of place.
At home it is the glass in which you stir gin and vermouth over ice before straining them into a stemmed glass. A mixing glass chills the drink without shaking it: the liquid stays clear, like the one you are served at a bar.

Why a cocktail mixing glass with a foot
The bar top stays wet all evening: melting ice, the drips from every drink. A flat-bottomed mixing glass stands in that water and carries it along each time it is lifted. The foot raises the bowl off the bar top, and only the base touches the wet.
The foot is also the grip. While the bar spoon turns you hold the glass by the foot and not by the bowl, which is cold and covered in condensation once the ice is in. The hand does not warm the glass, and the glass does not slip between the fingers.
The pouring lip brings the liquid to a single point. Without a lip the drink leaves along the whole rim, and part of it runs down the outside and ends up on the bar mat. With the lip and a strainer in place, the stream falls straight into the serving glass.
Capacity is 530ml: it takes the ice and the measures for two drinks in the same stir. When the bar is full and the ticket reads two Martinis, they are stirred together and poured one after the other.
The glass is clear and thin-walled. The guest at the bar sees the ice turning, and the bartender sees the level of the liquid while the ingredients go in.

How it is used
Fill it with ice, pour in the ingredients and stir with the bar spoon running along the wall of the glass. One hand holds the foot, the other turns. Then set the strainer on the mouth and pour from the lip into a glass that is already chilled.
In a clear mixing glass the drink is visible: the colour tells you whether every ingredient is in before the stirring starts.
One per bar station
It is sold singly. A venue keeps one per bar station, plus a spare: it is a glass tool, and a replacement in the stockroom keeps the stirred drinks on the list for the evening.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item. The discount applies automatically in the basket.
Care
The maker gives two pointers. First: wash it with the soft side of the sponge, which keeps the surface free of scratches. Second: after hand washing, dry the inside well, so the crystal stays clear.
Choose this one if
You stir drinks in view of the guest and want a cocktail mixing glass that is held by the foot and pours from one point. It is the working piece of a range of six: the drinks stirred in it are served in the Bargiani 190ml martini glass or, over ice, in the Bargiani 320ml old fashioned glass. The other models, flat-bottomed and in other capacities, are in the mixing glasses category.
FAQ
How many drinks does one stir make? Two: 530ml takes the ice and the measures for two stirred drinks.
What is the Bargiani cocktail mixing glass made from? Lead-free crystal, mouth-blown. The range is by NUDE, a brand of the Pasabahce group.
What is the foot for? It keeps the bowl off the wet bar top and gives a grip during the stir, away from the cold glass.
Does it match the glasses in the same range? Yes. The Bargiani collection has six pieces: this mixing glass and five glasses, each on a stem or a foot.
