The classic low tumbler rests its whole base on the bar top. This model holds the bowl up on a short foot: whoever serves it picks it up by the foot and leaves no fingerprints on the bowl, which is the part the guest looks at.

The hand stays away from the cold glass. A drink over ice carried by the bowl warms sooner and wets the fingers. Carried by the foot, it reaches the table at the temperature it left the bar at.
