Rock glasses: strength and practicality first
Not every service wants crystal. There is the fast turnover of a packed aperitivo hour, the terrace, the pool, the outdoor event where a broken glass is a real risk. Rock glasses are built for these settings: tempered glass that stands up to knocks and wash cycles, or unbreakable polymers that look like glass but do not break. They are the glasses you choose when the priority is to last.
Stackable tempered glass
Tempered glass, as in the classic Granity line, goes through a heat treatment that makes it far more resistant to knocks and thermal shock than ordinary glass. If it breaks, it goes into small, less sharp fragments. These glasses also stack: they take little space in the stockroom and on the back bar, which counts where every centimetre does. They are the practical choice for heavy daily use.
When you need unbreakable
Where glass has to be avoided altogether, polymers come in: polycarbonate, SAN and polypropylene. Polycarbonate and SAN are clear and bright, almost impossible to tell from glass at a distance, but they do not break and they are light. They suit poolside, beach, concerts, catering and high-volume standing service. Polypropylene, more opaque, is built for maximum toughness. The frost finish adds an iced look that suits summer settings.
A size for every serve
The Rock family covers everything: small sizes around 200ml for aperitivi and short serves, 270ml for general use, 400 and 420ml for sturdy long drinks. Multi-packs keep the set matched and let you grow it with the venue's numbers.
| Material | Character | Where it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Tempered glass | Tough, stackable, low cost | Heavy daily use, fast turnover |
| Polycarbonate / SAN | Clear and unbreakable | Pool, beach, events, standing service |
| Polypropylene | Maximum toughness, opaque | Demanding settings, maximum safety |
The pieces that make the serve
The Granity 200ml is the stackable tempered working glass: it stands up to constant turnover, saves space on the back bar, and has been a staple of practical service for years.
The Granity Frost 400ml in SAN has the bright look of glass but does not break: the choice for poolside, terraces and events, with an iced finish for the summer.
The Rock Juice 420ml brings the same strength to the large size: long drinks and fresh juices, with a generous capacity and a solid build.
For spirit-forward cocktails over a large cube there is the Old Fashioned glass, for long drinks the tumbler and for shots the shot glass.
Frequently asked questions
What are Rock glasses?
The bar's sturdy working glasses: stackable tempered glass that stands up to constant turnover, and unbreakable polymer versions, for settings where strength counts more than looks, from heavy service to outdoor events.
Tempered glass or unbreakable Rock glass?
Tempered glass is tough, stackable and low cost, suited to heavy daily use at the bar. Polymers such as polycarbonate and SAN are unbreakable and light, hard to tell from glass at a distance, and are the choice where glass is banned or a risk.
Where are unbreakable polycarbonate or SAN glasses used?
Poolside, beach, concerts, catering, terraces and high-volume standing service: every setting where a broken glass would be a hazard. They stay clear and bright but do not break.
Do Rock glasses stack?
Yes, many Rock glasses in tempered glass and polymer are designed to stack. That saves space in the stockroom and on the back bar, which counts in venues short on space.
What is the difference between a Rock glass and an Old Fashioned glass?
The Rock glass is a practical family built around strength, stacking and unbreakable materials, in several sizes. The Old Fashioned is a specific glass, short and wide with a heavy base, made for spirit-forward cocktails served over one large cube of ice.
