The stepped jigger in brief
The Bars stepped jigger is a measuring mug in AISI 304 stainless steel with four steps on the wall, each with its measure engraved: 15, 30, 45 and 60ml, roughly ½, 1, 1½ and 2oz. It has a side handle and a vintage finish, which is a matt satin treatment of the steel and not paint.
Who it is for
Bartenders who want the measure to read from outside. On other jiggers you check the measure by looking inside; here the step shows from the outside as you pour, and the bartender keeps an eye on the bottle rather than on the jigger. In bars where the owner checks measures, it is also a way of showing the guest that the drink is measured.
The vintage finish works on a second front: satin steel does not reflect the spotlights or show fingerprints, so the jigger stays presentable for the whole service without anyone polishing it between drinks.

Why the handle changes the move
With a side handle the hand does not touch the body of the jigger, and that matters more than it seems. Wet fingers do not slip on the wall, the warmth of the hand does not reach the spirit, and when pouring into the tin the wrist turns on the handle rather than on the mug: the measure goes in one move without dripping on the rim. With a double-ended jigger the same pour means holding it between thumb and index finger and controlling the angle with the arm.
The mug stands on the bar top between ingredients, so the hand is free for the next bottle. On a five-line spec that means never holding anything longer than needed.

What the vintage finish is
It is a satin treatment of the stainless steel, not a coating: the surface is worked until it turns matt and slightly grey, like a tool used for years. Because it is not paint, it does not chip, does not wear at the corners and does not change colour with washing. It is the same finish as The Bars vintage line, so the jigger sits with the shakers and tins of that series without clashing.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
How many to keep
Two per station, as for any measure. The one that poured syrup or a coloured amaro leaves a residue you can taste in the next spirit, and nobody stops mid-ticket to rinse it. The stepped jigger stands on the bar top, so the two measures share the station without taking up your hands. The code stays in the maker’s catalogue and a replacement arrives identical, finish included.
The stepped jigger alongside the others
The same stepped reading, on a shallow cup with a long handle, is the jigger with handle. The other measures, double-ended and graduated, are in the jigger category.
Care
Hot water and mild detergent, paying attention to the edges of the steps where syrup collects. Dry with a soft cloth. Water marks show less on satin than on polished steel, and drying keeps limescale off here too.
