The matt black jigger in two lines
The matt black jigger is a double-cone measure in steel with a matt black finish, in three sizes: 15/30, 30/45 and 30/60ml. It is the classic cocktail jigger in a version that does not reflect light.
Who it is for
For bars with a dark counter that want tools to match. On a black or dark wood bar top, a shiny jigger is a point of light that catches the eye with every movement; a matt one disappears and leaves the drink in view, which is what the guest should be looking at. It is also the right tool for anyone who photographs cocktails, because polished steel throws the reflections of the lights straight into the lens.
Matt does not show fingerprints
That is the practical advantage, and it counts for more than looks. A jigger is picked up dozens of times a night, always with fingers wet with condensation and juice, and on a shiny surface every touch leaves a visible mark. A matt finish diffuses light instead of reflecting it, so fingerprints do not show; it also gives a little friction, so the matt black jigger slips less when your hands are wet.

Which of the three sizes
The 15/30 is the jigger for small measures, the one kept next to a larger jigger for bitters and syrups. The 30/45 follows recipe books written in centilitres, where 30 and 45ml are the most frequent measures. The 30/60 follows American books, built on one and two ounces. It is not a range of sizes but three tools for three recipe books, and the matt black jigger should be chosen by the book you have open on the bar.
The rim before the markings
A jigger is a fixed-volume tool: its accuracy comes from the rim always being in the same place, so two different people get the same measure without agreeing on anything. Choose the size that holds the measures you pour most often at the rim, and keep any internal markings for the rare cases.
Why measure
Free pouring can be learned and it works, but it has two limits no training removes: it gets worse with fatigue and it does not transfer to a colleague. A matt black jigger gives the same drink on the first order and the two hundredth, and the same drink when someone else is behind the bar. That is why venues that care about consistency measure, and it is also the simplest way to hold your GP.
A tool that lasts
A jigger has no moving parts and nothing that wears out: lists and machines change, the jigger stays. So it is worth choosing it well the first time, on shape and capacity more than on price.
Care
Hand wash with mild soap and dry straight away. Treat the black finish as a coated surface, not bare steel: no abrasive sponges and no dishwasher until the supplier confirms what the treatment is. Rinsing straight away also keeps dried syrup from reducing the working volume of the cone.
