The professional ice machine in two lines

The Arktic Kitchen Line ice machine is the countertop ice maker with storage: 15kg of hollow cubes in 24 hours, 12 cubes per cycle, and 4.5kg waiting in the basket. Three cube sizes selected from the panel, internal tank with no water connection, stainless steel body. The control panel is digital, the refrigerant is R290 and the power 130W.

Who it is for

For anyone who wants an ice machine without plumbing but with a reserve that covers service: a hotel breakfast room, a restaurant bar, the venue doing twenty covers a night and a hundred drinks at the weekend, the caterer setting up a bar in a private house. Compared with the 12kg ice maker the difference is not so much in output, which is close, but in storage: 4.5kg against 0.7kg, an hour of peak service without touching the machine.

The cubes form around the cooling bars, twelve per cycle, and drop into the removable 4.5kg basket.
Fifteen kilos and 4.5 in storage: the numbers of the ice machine

Fifteen kilos in 24 hours, at 100-150g per drink plus the ice in the shaker, is about a hundred full drinks. The 4.5kg reserve is the one kept for the rush: thirty or forty drinks without opening the machine, and while the basket empties the machine keeps producing. The basket lifts out from the top by its handles and tips into the ice well on the bar.

The three cube sizes are selected from the panel: the small one chills quickly and goes in the shaker, the large one lasts in the glass. They are always hollow cubes, the ones the electric ice crusher also takes. One point to bear in mind: the machine is rated for rooms between 10 and 43°C, so it works in a hot kitchen in summer, but not outdoors in winter.

No water connection: what it means in use

The tank is filled by hand, and the water from ice melting in the basket returns to the tank: the ice machine reuses it. The advantage is that it goes wherever there is a socket, with no plumber and no drain. The limit is that the water needs topping up: at 15kg a day that is about 15 litres, three or four top-ups. The machine alerts you when the level is low.

Choose the ice machine if

If you need ice for a whole service without plumbing and want a reserve that holds through the rush. If the drinks run to a few dozen and space is short, the 12kg ice maker costs less and takes half the room. If you serve two hundred drinks a night every day, the next step is a plumbed-in machine with storage of 10kg or more.

Cleaning

Rinse and dry the basket and tank. Every two weeks, run a cycle with water and a measure of vinegar, then two cycles of clean water, to remove limescale from the cooling bars. Dust the side grille: that is where the compressor draws its air.
