The sphere cocktail pick in two lines
This is the stainless steel sphere pick: a garnish pick with a ball head, the quietest of the stops that show above the glass.
Who it is for
For anyone who works on the garnish and does not want the pick to eat it. Below the surface of the drink they are all the same: what changes is outside the glass.
The ball reads as a dot
And that is its whole job. A round, solid head has no direction, so however it is laid it looks deliberate, and it has no corners, so it does not compete with the shape of the garnish. The sphere pick is the choice for anyone who wants the twist or the olive to be seen, and not the tool holding it.

Ball or ring
The ball is the quieter stop. The ring shows more and gives a better grip when the pick comes out of the glass, which is what you want if the garnish is taken off to be eaten. The choice therefore follows what goes on the pick: for twists, which stay in the drink to the end, the ball is right because nothing has to be pulled out.
Where the head makes the difference
On a drink served in a coupe, where the pick lies across the rim and the head is the first thing a seated guest sees. On a tall tumbler it counts less, because the pick sits inside and stands out very little. It is the kind of detail that shows in a photograph and on a bar in view of the room, and that disappears in fast table service.
It is a piece of cutlery
Worth counting in before buying. A steel pick comes back to the bar, gets washed and gets counted: at the bar that works, in the room a share never returns. Anyone serving a lot to tables keeps the sphere pick for the drinks that stay at the bar and uses single use for the rest, which is the commonest compromise.
Washing
Dishwasher, in the cutlery basket and standing up. In an open basket a thin pick slips through the mesh and ends up on the floor of the machine. The ball head, being solid and smooth, holds no residue: it is the part that cleans itself, unlike the ring head where the hole wants checking.
Care
Rinse straight after use and dry fully. Olive brine and citrus juice left on steel attack it over time, and on a bright head the first marks show sooner than elsewhere. Store in a closed container rather than loose in a drawer.
How many to keep in service
As many as the garnished drinks that can be out at the same time, plus a reserve. It is the sum that applies to every reusable pick and that almost nobody does at the point of buying: owning two means washing them by hand between drinks, which during a full service does not happen, and single use takes over.

What is it made from? Stainless steel.
Can it go in the dishwasher? Yes, in the cutlery basket and standing up.
Is it easy to pull out of the glass? Less so than the ring: a smooth head gives no grip.
