The Kyoto Bar old fashioned in two lines
The Kyoto Bar old fashioned is a 430ml glass with a straight Japanese inspired line, 94mm tall and 80mm across, in packs of six. It is the double old fashioned at full size: the point where the format stops being only a spirits glass and starts carrying lengthened drinks in a short glass too.
Who it is for
For anyone who wants a short glass with capacity, and for anyone working with the 5cm sphere, which simply does not fit a 320ml glass alongside the liquid. It is also the size chosen by bars cutting down the number of models in service, because it covers two with one.
One format instead of two
This size solves a problem anyone putting a service together knows. A venue serving both Old Fashioneds and soda drinks in a short glass normally keeps two formats; with a 430ml you use one, filled differently. Fewer models in stock means fewer breakages splitting the set and less room taken on the back bar, and it is the reasoning that leads a hotel to the double as its single format: it carries the short pour and the long cocktail without the glass looking empty in either case.
The other side, on neat spirits
It should be said, because the supplier presents it as a whisky glass and that only half holds. Forty millilitres of spirit in a glass this wide are lost: the liquid barely covers the base and the aroma scatters into the empty volume instead of gathering. With whisky on ice it works very well; for tasting at room temperature you want a 300ml format, which brings the aroma close to the nose. The minimal design, with no pattern, does keep the colour readable through the whole column even with the glass full of ice.

Choose the Kyoto Bar old fashioned if
You want to cut the number of models in service, or you work with spheres and large cubes. If you taste neat spirits at room temperature you need smaller glasses as well: this one does not replace them.
How it fills
At 430ml the glass takes a 5cm sphere plus the pour, or two large cubes, or cubed ice to the rim for a drink lengthened with soda. In every case the rule of generous ice applies: filling it properly slows the melt, because a larger cold mass warms more slowly and gives up less water.
Care
Dishwasher with no precautions. The wide mouth makes them easy to wash and dry, which on a large format saves real time at the end of a shift. No pattern to protect and no corner for residue to sit in.
FAQ
Is the Kyoto Bar old fashioned glass too big for a classic Old Fashioned? Not if you serve it over a large cube or a sphere. On cubed ice alone the drink can look short.
Does a 5cm sphere fit? Yes, it goes in without forcing and leaves room for the pour.
Is it right for neat whisky? On ice, yes. For tasting at room temperature a 300ml glass is better.
Does it replace a highball glass? Only for short lengthened drinks. It is still a short glass: a gin and tonic or a mule wants a highball, which has another proportion.
Why is it called Kyoto Bar? For the Japanese inspiration of the design, plain and without pattern.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 packs -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
