The Hobstar old fashioned glass in two lines
The Hobstar old fashioned is a 350ml glass with the star cut typical of early 1900s glassware, 10.6cm tall and 8.9cm across, in packs of twelve. It sits in the heart of the double format, so it takes a large cube with the right measure, and the large pack says at what rate it is used up.
Who it is for
For a bar with volume that counts breakages in. Twelve pieces are not a reserve for the cupboard: they are the quantity a venue covers a service with, without being caught short halfway through the night. It is the purchase you make once a model has joined the working set and is no longer on trial.
Breakage is a cost line, not an accident
In a busy venue the average life of a glass is measured in months. Buying twelve means the replacement is in the store instead of finding out mid service that three are left. Anyone who assigns each drink its glass knows it: running out of one model means serving that drink in another, and the coherence of the service goes in a single night. On a characterised piece like this one the problem is more serious than on a plain glass, because the substitution shows from the next table.

Choose the Hobstar old fashioned if
You have a volume service, the bar is lit and you want a period piece the guest recognises. If you are still trying the model out, or the room runs low lights, look at the packs of six and the fluted cuts first.
Six or twelve pieces
Twelve if this is the glass you serve your classics in. Break two in a night and the replacement is already in the store, and you do not have to finish the service with a different model in hand. Six are enough to try it, or to keep it alongside your main glass.
Care
Dishwasher. The star cut has deep corners that hold residue more than a plain wall: with sweet drinks it is worth rinsing before the cycle, or the sugar sets in the bottom of the cut and only comes out by hand.
FAQ
What is a hobstar cut? A cut star pattern, typical of early 1900s glassware, repeated along the wall of the glass.
Is twelve better than six? It is if the model is already in the working set: twelve pieces guarantee the replacement. On the price per glass, always check the current list, because large packs do not automatically bring it down.
Does a large cube fit? Yes. At 350ml a single 5cm cube goes in and leaves room for the measure.
Does it suit a low lit room? Less than others. A deep cut works by refraction: without light falling on it, it gives little back.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 packs -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
