The bar spoon with strainer in two lines
This 40cm tool puts two together: the stirring spoon with a spiral handle and the strainer that holds the ice back. Forty centimetres of steel, and the supplier states it is dishwasher safe.
Who it is for
For anyone short of space on the bar and short of hands. A stirred drink runs stir, put the spoon down, pick up the strainer, seat it and pour: with one tool doing both jobs the steps go from four to two, and there is one piece fewer to wash.
Two in one, with a trade to know about
A strainer built into a spoon has no spring the way a hawthorne does, so it holds the large pieces back but does not make the same barrier against fine ice shards. On a stirred drink, where the ice is whole and not broken up, nothing else is needed; on a shaken drink with citrus or muddled mint a fine mesh over the glass is still worth having. So this is the right tool for stirring, and a sensible compromise for the rest.

Forty centimetres cover everything
They reach the bottom of a 28oz tin, of a tall mixing glass and of a jug, and they stay usable in a serving glass. It is the length you choose when you want a single spoon, and on a tool that also strains it makes more sense again: this one is meant never to be set down, so it has to work everywhere.
How you pour and strain
Hold the spoon with the strainer side against the rim of the vessel, thumb locking it, and tip in one movement. The grip is found before you start pouring, not during: a strainer that slips halfway through drops ice into the glass, and that is the mistake made in a hurry.
Care
This is the one bar spoon in the range the supplier explicitly states for the dishwasher, so there are no precautions. It is still worth rinsing the strainer end straight away, since that is what holds residue, and drying it to keep limescale marks off the steel.
One tool fewer to wash
On a small bar the number of pieces counts as much as their quality: every extra tool is a place to find for it, a wash more and one more thing to hunt for at peak service. A 40cm spoon that strains on its own takes a piece out of the cycle, and that is why this model sits well on mobile stations and catering counters, where everything carried out has to be carried back.
FAQ
Does the bar spoon with strainer replace the strainer? For stirred drinks yes; for shaken drinks with citrus or mint a fine mesh is still worth using.
How long is it? Forty centimetres, the length that covers every vessel on a station.
Can it go in the dishwasher? Yes, and it is the only one in the range the supplier states it for.
What type of strainer is it? The supplier does not specify: ask us to confirm before you order.
Does it work for shaking? No, the spoon is the tool of the stir: shaking needs a shaker and a separate strainer.
How many turns does a stir take? Twenty or thirty, and the reference is the frost forming on the outside of the vessel.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
