The Old Fashioned dash bottle in two lines
A 100ml glass bottle with the squared body that echoes the old fashioned glass, supplied with the Dash Pour top in chromed plastic and cork. It measures 7 x 7 x 14.5cm.
Who it is for
For anyone keeping their preparations on the bar rather than under it. That is the difference between a container that hides and one that shows: a square bottle stays where you put it, lines up with the others and does not roll when the bar takes a knock, which round bottles do.
The shape is more than a reference
A square based body has two concrete advantages over a cylinder. It uses shelf space better in a row, because no empty wedges are left between one bottle and the next; and it rests on four edges rather than a circumference, so it stands up even on a surface that is not perfectly level. On a narrow shelf behind the bar a row of these goes in where a row of round bottles would not.

The Dash Pour top, and why it counts more than the bottle
It doses the liquid in drops and pulls out in a single move, which a screw cap will not do when one hand is busy. The dash that comes out sits in practice between seven and ten tenths of a millilitre: it is not a codified unit, it depends on the spout, and that is exactly why having the same pourer on every preparation makes the doses repeatable for whoever is behind the bar.
One hundred millilitres, and how often you refill
That is more than a hundred dashes: on a preparation used often it lasts a few weeks, on a niche one several months. It is the capacity that holds both needs together, not refilling constantly and not leaving a liquid nobody dated open for a year.
Why bitters are dosed in drops
Because they are concentrated like no other ingredient behind the bar: well over forty per cent alcohol and extracts of spices and roots in quantities where two or three dashes change a drink and ten ruin it. It is the only cocktail ingredient measured in tenths of a millilitre, and that calls for a container built around the pourer rather than around the bottle. This one is exactly that, with a shape that also stays put in a row.
Care
The glass washes with no precautions, the top comes apart and gets rinsed separately. Cork must not be left to soak or put in the dishwasher, because it flakes and stops sealing; and it wants replacing once it holds the smell of the previous preparation, because at that point it passes it to the next one.
FAQ
How much does it hold? 100ml, the same as the round version.
Why the square shape? It uses shelf space better in a row and stands more steadily.
Is the top included? Yes, the Dash Pour comes with it.
Dishwasher safe? The glass yes, the top no.
What is the difference against the round bottle? The shape: capacity and top are the same.
How much is a dash? In practice between 0.7 and 1 millilitre, and it depends on the spout.
Can it be used for syrups? Better not: a thick syrup does not come out in even drops and clogs the channel.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
