One hundred millilitres is about a hundred dashes
A dash sits in practice between seven and ten tenths of a millilitre, so a full bottle covers more than a hundred passes. On a preparation used often that is a few weeks of stock; on a niche one it can last months, and it is why this capacity became the standard for bitters bottles: enough not to be refilling constantly, little enough not to keep a preparation open for a year.
The label is half the job
A row of identical dash bottles only works if each one says what it holds and from when. The date counts as much as the name: a house preparation has no printed expiry, and the only way to know whether it is still good is to know when it was made. It is the habit that separates an orderly station from a collection of mystery bottles.

House bitters, tinctures, extracts, aromatic waters, saline solutions. Saline deserves a line: a few drops in an alcoholic drink raise the perception of sweetness and lower that of bitterness, and it is one of the few ingredients dosed exactly like a bitters, which is to say in dashes. A bottle given over to that alone is one of the first things to appear on a bar that has started working on preparations.
Care
The bottle washes in warm water and gets rinsed well before a change of preparation. The top comes apart and gets rinsed separately, because extracts dry in the channel: cork must never be left to soak or put in the dishwasher, because it flakes and stops sealing.
