The eco wood pourer in two lines
A high accuracy pour spout with a rubber base, a body in a wood and polycarbonate composite, and the hole that lets air in while you pour.
Who it is for
For anyone with the bar on show who wants the bottles in the front row to match the rest of it. A polished metal spout on a light wood station stands out, and the bottles in service are the thing a guest looks at longest after the bartender.
What eco wood is
A composite: wood fibre held together in a polycarbonate matrix, seventy to thirty. The wood part gives the colour and the feel, the plastic gives the stability that wood lacks against alcohol and water. A solid wood spout would swell and crack along the grain within weeks; the eco wood pourer does not, because the matrix holds it.

The air hole is what does the measuring
While the liquid leaves the spout, a vacuum forms inside the bottle: with no way in for air the flow breaks and restarts in bursts, and a stuttering pour cannot be counted. With the hole the flow rate stays steady from the first millilitre to the last, and that is what makes a pourer a measuring instrument rather than a spout.
The internal wall, which matters more than the outside
The liquid touches nothing else. It has to be smooth and free of flaws, because every roughness creates turbulence and turbulence changes the flow rate: two spouts identical outside but different inside give two different doses on the same count. In the eco wood pourer the surface in contact is the composite, worked to stay regular, and that is why this model sits among the accurate pourers rather than the decorative ones.
Care, which here is more delicate
Hand wash in warm water, always. No dishwasher and no long soaking: heat and standing water are the two things that work against the wood fibre in the composite. Take the spout out of the bottle at the end of service, rinse it and dry it straight away, and treat the rubber base as you would on any other pourer, which means no harsh detergents.
How long it lasts
The body lasts as long as you treat it properly; the rubber ages anyway. That is the part that hardens, loses grip and starts letting the spout turn in the neck, and when that happens the piece is replaced even if the rest is sound. On a tool chosen partly for how it looks it is worth checking the base now and then, because a spout that turns is also a spout sitting crooked on the bottle.
FAQ
What is the eco wood pourer made from? Eco wood: 70 per cent wood fibre and 30 per cent polycarbonate.
Can it go in the dishwasher? No, hand wash in warm water and dry straight away.
Is it as accurate as a metal pourer? Yes, as long as the internal wall stays smooth: that is what sets the flow rate.
Is it sold singly? Yes, the price is for one piece.
Does the wood take on smells? The polycarbonate matrix limits absorption, but rinsing straight away is still the rule.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
