The 85cm ABS speed rail in two lines
This is the long speed rail in ABS: it holds about ten bottles and covers a station working across several families of drinks.
Who it is for
For bars with a broad menu that cannot fit everything into six places. Going from six to ten is not just more capacity, it is a different way of working.
Six to ten changes how the line is built
Six bottles hold only the house pours, and every drink beyond the classics means a trip to the back bar; ten take the two or three modifiers that come up most often as well, and the trip disappears. Over a busy service that is dozens of movements saved, and it is why an 85cm speed rail is chosen by looking at the menu, not the shelf.

The limit is space
85cm of rail needs a clear stretch of bar, and at many stations that stretch is broken by a sink, an ice well or a pillar. The real width is 86.5cm, so measure before you order: if the space is broken up, two 56cm rails fit better than one long one and let you split the families into two groups.
How to lay out ten bottles
By family rather than by need. The house pours take the centre, where the hand reaches without moving the body, and the modifiers go at the ends. It is a layout you plan once and then leave alone: the speed of service depends more on this than on capacity itself, and that is why a well-run bar has the order written down somewhere.
ABS on a long rail
It weighs 2.2kg empty, so it stays easy to handle when you unhook it for cleaning, which on a long rail is a real advantage. It does not rust and it softens the knock of glass. The other side is the load it carries: ten full bottles are more than ten kilos hanging from the edge of the bar, and on a structure that is not very solid, steel spreads that load better.
The slots, and cleaning
The rail unhooks from its slots and is washed separately. Liquid running down the necks collects at the bottom, and on a long rail there is twice as much bottom: if it does not come off, it does not get cleaned. It is the end-of-night job that decides whether the station still looks presentable after a year.
Care
Wash it daily off its hooks, in hot water with detergent. Check the slots now and then, because they carry the load, and a long rail loads its fixings more than a short one. Dry it before refitting, so no water sits where the rail meets the bar.
Ten places, and the urge to fill them
That is the most common mistake. An 85cm speed rail with ten bottles, four of them used twice a night, works worse than a well-chosen six: the unused bottles lengthen the reach and hide the ones you need. Fill the extra places only with what really goes into the best-selling drinks.
Two short rails or one long one
If the stretch of bar is clear, one long rail keeps everything in a single line and reads better. If the bar top is broken up, two 56cm rails let you split the families into two groups, and at some stations they work even better, because the second hand works the second group.
FAQ
How many bottles does the 85cm speed rail hold? About ten, depending on the diameter.
What does it really measure? 86.5cm wide.
One long rail or two short ones? Two short if the bar top is broken up, one long if the stretch is clear.
Does it unhook for cleaning? Yes, from its slots: on a long rail it is the only way to clean the bottom.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
