The Melodia 160ml coupe in two lines
The RCR Melodia 160ml coupe is a stemmed glass in Luxion glass with the cut pattern of the Melodia range: leaves and rays on the bowl, a worked knot on the stem. It holds 160ml, stands 15.8cm tall and measures 8.8cm across the mouth. It is dishwasher safe. The pack holds six coupes, the unit the manufacturer sells it in.
Who it is for
For cocktail bars serving classics up, Martini, Manhattan, Daiquiri, Bee’s Knees, and wanting a small coupe rather than a 250ml one that makes a 90ml drink look empty. 160ml is the size of pre-Prohibition cocktail glasses: the drink comes close to the rim, and it stays cold to the last sip because it is finished before it warms. For a bar that already has Melodia tumblers and stems, it is the piece that completes the menu.
At home it is the coupe for an aperitivo Martini: small, weighty in the hand, with light passing through the cut.
Why a 160ml Melodia coupe and not a 250ml
A Martini shaken or stirred over ice comes out at 90 to 120ml, depending on the spec and the dilution. In the Melodia 160ml it reaches two fingers from the rim: the guest sees a full drink, the bartender does not have to pad the measures to fill the glass, and the GP stays where the spec sheet put it. In a large coupe the same drink looks half-poured.
The stem keeps the hand away from the liquid, so a drink served without ice does not warm up. That is why the stemmed coupe is the glass for stirred cocktails and for sours fine strained.

Six coupes, and the full Melodia range
RCR sells the Melodia in packs of six, and so do we. Six coupes are the minimum for table service; a bar putting the small coupe on the menu keeps two or three packs, so there is always a clean round while another is being washed. The range stays in the catalogue, and the same family includes the 210ml Melodia stemmed glass, the 340ml old fashioned and the 360ml tumbler: the same cut from the bar to the floor.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 packs -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
How to serve in the Melodia 160ml
Keep the coupe in the fridge or chill it with ice before pouring, and always hold it by the stem. Strain the drink with a hawthorne, or fine strain it if there is fruit or ice shards. The Melodia 160ml does not want a bulky garnish: a twist expressed over the top, or an olive on a pick.
Luxion glass
Luxion is the high-grade glass patented by RCR: bright, clear, it rings when tapped, and it is recyclable. It goes through the dishwasher without clouding, which on a cut glass is the difference between a set that stays bright and one that looks used after a month. Load the coupes tilted, so water does not sit in the bowl.
