The Kyoto Bar 320ml in two lines
The Kyoto Bar 320ml is a wide coupe with the plain lines of the Japanese inspired range, in packs of six. It is among the largest in the category, and like every big coupe it should be chosen knowing which drinks it exists for.
Who it is for
For lists with drinks served up that have volume. Spritz served in a coupe, sparkling cocktails, long drinks strained and served without ice: recipes that come out over 150ml finished and would not fit a small coupe. For short classics this size is oversized.
What a plain design does on a wide bowl
On large coupes a plain surface is not a saving, it is a necessity. A wide decorated surface becomes the first thing anyone sees when the glass reaches the table, and with little liquid in it the result is a showy vessel with a small drink at the bottom. A clean line does the opposite: it moves attention to the liquid and the garnish, and lets the shape, not the pattern, give the character. That is the same Japanese logic behind the rest of this range.

Choose the Kyoto Bar 320ml if
You serve drinks up with volume, or sparkling cocktails in a coupe. For martinis and daiquiris, which finish between 90 and 120ml, you want 150 to 220ml: here they would sit at the bottom.
How far a wide coupe can be filled
Never past half, and in practice never past two thirds even if you push it. A 320ml coupe filled to the rim cannot be carried: one change of direction and the drink is on the tray. So the stated capacity is not the working capacity, which is true of every coupe but obvious at this size: 320ml of volume means a working serve of around 160 to 180ml, in other words a long drink served up.
Shelf and basket space
A wide coupe takes far more room than its capacity suggests, and that belongs in the calculation before you buy. Fewer go in a dishwasher basket per cycle, they want a row of their own on the back bar shelf, and half as many fit on a tray as small coupes. Anyone with a tight bar counter weighs that before deciding how many to put into service.
Care
Dishwasher with no precautions, and with no pattern there is nowhere for residue to sit. Wide coupes take up a lot of basket space and want spacing: rim touching rim during the cycle is the most common cause of chips.
FAQ
Is the Kyoto Bar 320ml coupe glass right for a martini? No, it is oversized: a stirred martini finishes around 90ml and would sit at the bottom.
How full does it really get? About halfway, so 160 to 180ml: past that it cannot be carried.
Why is there no pattern? On a wide coupe a pattern becomes more visible than the drink: a clean line moves attention to the contents.
Does a spritz fit? Yes, and it is one of the uses this wide size exists for.
Is it the same range as the Kyoto Bar tumblers? Yes, the same Japanese inspiration in different shapes.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 packs -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
