Citrus Squeezer, Powder Coated Aluminium, Three Sizes

For anyone who has worked out that one tool does not cover every fruit. It is the only product in the category that declares the three sizes one by one, and the one that lets you build the station with the right piece instead of forcing the same one every time.

The cup is the part that takes the half fruit, and the fit between the diameter of the cup and the diameter of the fruit decides the yield. If the cup is too wide the half lime rattles, the pressure escapes at the sides and half the juice stays in. If it is too narrow the half orange does not go in: the skin splits on the rim, the handle does not reach the end of its travel and the pith gets crushed into the glass, which means bitterness. That is why the three models are not a colour variant.

Powder coating, and what it is for

Powder coating is applied dry and then baked, so it forms a thicker and more adherent layer than a liquid paint. On a tool touching acid juice dozens of times a night it is the barrier keeping the aluminium and the fruit apart, and it is why this squeezer passes on no metallic taste. It follows that scouring pads, abrasives and the dishwasher are the three quickest ways to take it off.

The colour is not decoration

Each model has its own, and on a station worked in the dark and at speed it lets you pick up the right piece without looking at the cup. It is the logic of colour coded chopping boards in a kitchen: the hand learns the colour before the size, and in service the hand is quicker than the eye.

The fruit goes in cut side down

That holds on all three models. The half fruit rests with the cut face towards the holes and the skin on top: under pressure the peel turns inside out and pushes the flesh against the openings, so more juice comes out and the bitter oils stay on the skin side.

Care

Hand wash straight after use, with a neutral detergent and a soft brush in the holes. Dry fully with the tool held open. If the coating chips anywhere, keep an eye on it: bare aluminium in contact with acid oxidises, and the chip spreads from there.

How do I choose the size? On the fruit you press most often: the half fruit has to rest on the rim of the cup, not rattle inside it.

Can it go in the dishwasher? No, the hot cycle and strong detergents attack the coating.

Can one model be enough? If you work with almost one fruit only, yes; otherwise keep one for lime and one for orange.
