The Deco Coffee shaker in brief
The Bars Deco Coffee shaker is a three-piece 900ml cobbler in mirror-polished stainless steel. The body has the barrel shape of 1930s coffee pots, with vertical fluting at the base and two raised bands round the body; on top sit the built-in strainer and the cap. It belongs to the maker’s Deco line.
Who it is for
Bars that serve drinks in pairs and want to finish the order in one shake. Nine hundred millilitres is the large cobbler size: two drinks shaken with ice, poured one after the other, come out with the same dilution and reach the table together. With a 500ml shaker that is two shakes, and the second drink is always slightly different from the first.
It also suits a bartender working alone. The cobbler has its strainer in the lid, so you shake and pour without picking up a strainer, putting it down dirty or needing a third hand: three moves instead of five, for every drink.

Three pieces, and what each one does
The body holds the drink and the ice. The built-in strainer fits on top and holds back the cubes as you pour, its holes doing the work of a Hawthorne strainer without being a separate tool. The cap closes the shake and, once removed, opens the mouth of the strainer. The three pieces nest together, so the shaker takes up only the space of its body in the station.
A three-piece closure is the quickest to learn: there is no knack to breaking the seal between tin and small tin as on a Boston, and no risk of a pair locking tight with cold in the middle of an order. That is why the cobbler remains the shaker for fast service and for stations where not everyone has the same hand.

Why the coffee pot shape
The Deco line comes from 1930s tableware, when coffee pots had barrel bodies and fluted bases. On today’s bar that shape does two things: it is recognisable from across the room, and it sits with the table service without looking like technical kit. In hotel bars, where the shaker is brought to the table in front of the guest, that counts as much as capacity.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
How many to keep
Two per station, even when service is quiet. The shaker comes out of a shake wet and cold, and the one just used does not dry itself while the next order comes in: the second body is what lets you carry on. The code stays in the maker’s catalogue, so a replacement arrives identical, with the same strainer and cap.
The Deco Coffee shaker alongside the others
From the same line there is the plain 900ml Deco cobbler, without the fluting at the base. Boston pairs, Parisiennes and the other cobblers are in the cocktail shaker category.
Care
Take it apart into its three pieces and hand wash in hot water with mild detergent, rinsing under the strainer where citrus pulp and bits of mint collect. Dry all three before reassembling, so no water is trapped between strainer and body. Use a soft sponge on the mirror polish, never a scourer.
