The Smart portable bar station in two lines
The Smart is the smallest folding bar station of the steel series: 90cm wide, a speed rail for 10 bottles, a five minute build by hand with not one screw and 90 x 80 x 20cm folded. It is the model for anyone working where space is short and set-up time is what it is.
Who it is for
For caterers going through narrow courtyards and ordinary lifts, for bartending schools, for home bar services built in a living room. Ninety centimetres is a one person counter: one works, one serves, and the queue clears if the list is short and the bottles are within reach. Two bartenders on the same station are cramped, and that is why the next model exists.
The 20cm folded is the number that counts
The figure people talk about when buying is the width, but what decides whether the work is sustainable is the thickness folded. The Smart flattens to 20cm: it goes in upright behind the seats of a van, it stands against a wall in the store and it leaves the rest of the load space free for tubs, crates and bottles. A counter that folds into a pack twice as thick takes the room of two, and over a round trip the difference is measured in journeys.

Ten bottles are a list, not a store
The 10 place speed rail is the measure of this counter, and it should be read as a design constraint rather than a limit. Ten bottles cover a list of six or seven cocktails built properly: two gins, a rum, a tequila, a vermouth, a bitter, two supporting liqueurs. The premix holder and the speed bottles add another ten places for the preparations made beforehand, which are the real speed multiplier of a small station. Anyone putting fifteen different drinks on the list with this counter spends the night hunting for bottles under the top.
Choose the Smart if
You work alone or in twos on short lists, the access is awkward, or the station has to be built and struck often and fast. If instead you serve two hundred cover weddings with two bartenders in parallel, the 120cm Comfort is the minimum, and below that width you work elbow to elbow.
Care and working life
The brushed stainless tops clean with a cloth and a neutral degreaser at the end of service: brushed steel forgives working scratches far more than polished. The aluminium frame does not mind damp and the PST panels take the knocks of transport, which is what actually kills a portable counter. The working rule is to dry the joints before folding it: water shut inside for a week is the one thing that does damage.
