The 20oz half tin in two lines
The half tin is the small tin of the Boston shaker: 600ml, or 20oz, in stainless steel. The Bars describes it as balanced and makes it in three finishes: matt black, Vintage and Tiffany. It seals inside the 840ml (28oz) large tin from the same line, and together they make a tin-on-tin shaker.
Who the half tin is for
For anyone using the Boston with a mixing glass who wants to move to metal, and for anyone who already has a large tin and needs to replace the small one. In the classic Boston the small half is a glass; the half tin replaces it with steel. Glass can chip under the strike that breaks the seal, steel does not, and a tin that falls on the bar top has no consequences for the drink.
For the home bartender it is the piece that completes the Boston: with the large tin and a strainer, sours, daiquiris and margaritas come out as they do at the bar.

Why the half tin is where you measure
In a tin-on-tin the drink is built in the half tin: jigger, ingredients, and only at the end the ice in the large tin. The order has a cost reason. If a measure comes out wrong, you throw away what is in the small tin and not a tin full of ice already wet with spirit. At 600ml there is room for a double or for a sour with egg white, without reaching the rim.
The manufacturer does not declare the weight, height or mouth diameter. We report its description, balanced, and the capacity.

Choose the half tin if
You have the large tin and are missing the small one, or you want a spare half tin for every station. If you are starting from scratch, take it with the 840ml (28oz) Boston tin in the same finish: the two are made to seal together. If you want all the equipment in one finish, the same half tin is in the 12 piece matt black cocktail set, the Vintage cocktail making kit and the Tiffany bartender set.
The half tin behind the bar
On a busy Saturday the small tin is the one that changes hands most: filled, sealed, broken, rinsed. Two half tins for every large tin means one is always ready while the other is being washed, and the station does not wait. That is why many bars buy small tins in twice the number of large ones.
To seal, the half tin goes into the large tin at an angle and takes a strike of the palm: the steel walls hold by friction. To break the seal you strike the rim of the large tin, where the two walls meet. The finish helps keep the sets apart when two people are working.
Half tins for more stations
Anyone fitting out several stations, or wanting twice as many small tins, buys in quantity. The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
Care
The manufacturer does not declare whether it is dishwasher safe: to be careful, wash it by hand with hot water, mild detergent and a non-abrasive sponge. Dry it straight away, inside and out, and store it open. Egg white and citrus are not left to dry on the walls at the end of service.
FAQ on the 20oz half tin
How much does it hold? 600ml, or 20oz.
Will it seal with any large tin? It is made for the 28oz tin from the same line. With tins from other brands the seal depends on the diameter, which the manufacturer does not declare.
Can it be used on its own? Yes, as a vessel for building the measures, or for throwing between two tins.
How much does it weigh? The manufacturer does not declare it.
