Who it is for
For bars that use the gun regularly. The coil is the part doing the real work, so it is also the first to wear: keeping a stock means you do not stop when the vapour starts to drop.
What a coil does
It heats. The liquid aroma touches a spiral-wound element and turns to vapour, which then fills the bubble or comes out as a cloud. Like any element working on a liquid, it degrades with use: it collects aroma residue and loses efficiency, producing less vapour for the same current. That is why the coils are changed before the output becomes uneven.

When to change them
When the vapour comes out weak, when the bubble forms smaller than usual, or when a burnt note appears in the aroma. That last sign is the clearest: the element is heating residue instead of liquid, and the change cannot wait, because what reaches the drink is no longer the aroma you chose. The maker gives a life of about four weeks, depending on how hard the gun works, and two rules: screw each coil fully home before use, or the tank leaks from the start, and keep one coil per aroma, so flavours do not mix.
Five per pack, and why that is the right stock
It covers a long working cycle without tying up stock. Use depends on how many bursts you make, so do the sum on your own service: a bar using the bubble on a few drinks a week uses very little, one that puts it on a fixed menu item sees the difference. Either way, have the stock before you need it, because a spent coil shows up in the glass, not in the stockroom.

How to fit them
Take the tank out of the gun, open it, remove the spent coil and fit the new one in its seat, checking it is in place before closing. Do it with the gun switched off and dry hands, as with any electrical part.
Care
Tank coils are not washed: they are consumables and get replaced. You can extend their life by keeping the tank clean and not leaving aroma standing in it for weeks, because standing liquid leaves its residue on the element.
Coil, tank and gun: which does what
The gun supplies power and air, the tank holds the aroma, the coil heats it. Keeping them apart helps you find the problem when the bubble will not form: if the gun switches on but no vapour comes out, the cause is almost always the coil or the contact between tank and body, not the gun. Changing the coil is the first check to make, and the cheapest.
Why keep an open pack at the station
A coil does not fade gently: it goes from working to giving an uneven mist within a few nights, and that moment nearly always comes during service. Having the coils in the station drawer, not in the stockroom, is the difference between a two-minute change and a drink taken off the list for the night.
