Flavour Blaster aromas in two lines

These are the 10ml aroma bottles that go into the gun’s tank: the cartridge turns the aroma into vapour and the vapour fills the bubble. More than twenty flavours are available.

Who it is for

For bars that have the gun and want the bubble to mean something beyond the effect. The aroma is the part you choose drink by drink, and it is what separates a garnish from part of the spec.

The flavours, and how to choose

There are citrus notes, such as citrus, grapefruit and bergamot; fresh herbal ones, such as rosemary, lemongrass and mint; sweet, pastry notes, such as vanilla, coconut, cinnamon and bubble gum; dark ones, such as coffee, nutmeg and smoked; and the less usual ones, such as truffle, rhubarb, lychee and rose. There is also neutral, for when you want the bubble without adding scent. With Flavour Blaster aromas the choice starts from the drink: find a note that is already there and reinforce it, or one that is missing and add it on purpose.

Cartridge, tank and nozzle: the vapour stays sealed in the film and is released when the guest breaks the bubble.

Reinforce or add

These are the two approaches, and they give different results. Reinforcing means choosing an aroma already in the drink: a bergamot bubble on a cocktail with Earl Grey announces what is about to be drunk and surprises nobody, but makes the drink more coherent. Adding means bringing in a note that is absent: a smoked bubble over a clear drink creates a contrast that is noticed at once. The first route is safer, the second more memorable.

Ten millilitres, and how long they last

The maker states 250 clouds per bottle. At ten drinks a night that is under a month; for a fixed item on the drinks list, do the sum on your own service, and do it early, because an empty bottle is found at the glass, not in the stockroom. In a tank the aroma runs out before the coil does. Keep in stock the two or three flavours you really use rather than a full collection: opened aromas that sit unused lose intensity over time, so a bottle bought out of curiosity and used twice ends up wasted.

Neutral, and what it is for

Making the bubble without adding anything. It makes sense when the drink is already complex and the visual effect is enough, or when the bubble is the house signature across a list and changing scent with every cocktail would confuse. It is also the flavour to try the gun with, without using up a distinctive aroma.

How to store them

Closed, out of the light and away from heat, like any aromatic preparation. Fresh, citrus and herbal notes are the first to lose intensity; sweet and spiced ones last longer. A bottle that has lost its scent does not come back with a bigger dose.

The right flavour for the most-served drinks

On a Negroni and on amari, the dark notes work: coffee, nutmeg, smoked. On a gin and tonic and on clear drinks, the fresh notes: citrus, rosemary, lemongrass. On a Daiquiri and on rum drinks, the sweet and tropical ones: coconut, lychee, vanilla. On a Spritz, citrus, which is already there. These four pairings cover most drinks lists and let you start with three bottles instead of the whole range: with Flavour Blaster aromas the risk is not choosing the wrong flavour, it is buying too many.

Dosing

You do not measure it by eye like a syrup: the aroma goes into the tank and the gun decides how much ends up in the bubble. What you can control is how long you press, which decides how much vapour goes into the film. With the stronger Flavour Blaster aromas, such as smoked or truffle, a short press works better.
