The Yarai atomiser flask in two lines
A cut glass bottle holding 200ml, fitted with a stainless steel spray head. It measures 6 x 11 x 25cm and lays aroma and house preparations over the surface of a cocktail.
Who it is for
For anyone using an atomiser every day. Two hundred millilitres is twice the capacity of the other containers in the category: it means refilling half as often, and on a tool that goes onto every drink of a given list that is the difference between a gesture and a recurring nuisance.
What yarai means
It is the Japanese name for the crossed lattice cut, the diamond pattern you see on mixing glasses from the Japanese tradition. It started as cut glass work and has a practical reason alongside the decorative one, because the irregular faces give grip to a wet hand. On a Yarai atomiser flask the pattern does the same job, and on a tall narrow body held in one hand while the other presses the head, grip counts.

Aroma with no volume
One spray puts scent on the surface of the drink without adding liquid, so it does not move the spec and it does not dilute. It is the only intervention left once the cocktail is in the glass, and it is also the cheapest way to use an expensive product: two sprays cover the same surface a poured rinse would cover with a centilitre that mostly goes down the sink.
The steel spray head
That is the part that works, and on this model it is metal rather than plastic. It counts for two reasons: it stands up better to constant contact with high strength alcohol, which stiffens some plastics over time, and it does not deform if the flask lands on its nozzle. It is also the first part to check when a spray starts misting badly.
Care
Rinse it by working the spray with warm water until it runs clean, because the narrow channel is the part that clogs. Keep thick or sugary liquids out. Cut glass washes by hand: the faces and edges hold residue more than a smooth wall does, and in a dishwasher the knocks against other items chip exactly those edges.
How to spray
From about twenty centimetres, in a single press, watching the surface of the drink: once an even veil has formed, that is it. Closer and a concentrated jet lands in one spot; further and half of it ends up on the bar top. On a flask 250mm tall the gesture is comfortable with one hand, because the narrow body sits well between the fingers.
Two hundred millilitres, and how often you refill
Twice the rest of the atomisers in the category. With a spray using a few tenths of a millilitre at a time, a full flask covers hundreds of drinks: it is the capacity for someone whose atomiser goes onto a fixed item of the list, not onto the occasional drink. Keep it out of direct light all the same, because aromatic extracts dull over the weeks.
