The Yarai bottle in two lines
A 200ml glass bottle with a stopper and the crossed lattice cuts of the vintage work: a preparation bottle that stays on show.
Who it is for
For anyone keeping their own preparations on the bar and using them regularly. It is the middle size, the one sitting between the small infusion bottle and the spirit decanter.
The cuts are not only decoration
Yarai work is a grid of crossed incisions forming pyramid faces, the same you find on mixing glasses from the Japanese tradition. It throws light back in several directions, so a Yarai bottle on a lit shelf reads from across the room; and it gives grip to a wet hand, which on a piece picked up dozens of times through a service counts as much as the look.

Two hundred millilitres, and what for
For house bitters and preparations used regularly but in small doses. A hundred millilitres runs out fast if the product goes into three drinks on the list; half a litre stays open too long for something measured in drops. Two hundred covers a few weeks of service on a bitter, which is about its useful life.
A stopper, not a dasher
Worth saying up front, because it is the difference that shows in use: dosing in drops wants a bottle with a dasher top, while this one has a stopper. With the Yarai bottle you pour, and the hand makes the dose. On a bitter used by the drop it pays to keep a small dasher bottle for service and this one as the container you top it up from.
What it is worth to keep them on show
A house preparation hidden under the counter is indistinguishable from something bought in, and nobody sees the work behind it. On a lit shelf, with a handwritten label, the same preparation becomes part of what the venue has to say. It is why a worked bottle costs more than a plain one and gets bought anyway.
Labelling a cut surface
That is the one practical limit of the cuts: adhesive tape on a faceted surface does not hold, it lifts at the corners. Two things work, a tag tied to the neck with string or a label on the stopper, and the second has the advantage of reading from above when the bottles stand in a row.
Care
Hand wash and dry, with attention to the cuts, where water sits and leaves limescale marks. A bottle brush for the inside when you change preparation, because dried residue on the base of a worked bottle does not show through the faces.
What goes inside
House aromatic bitters, spice tinctures, concentrated cordials, spiced syrups. They are preparations used in small doses but steadily, and worth keeping in sight: a Yarai bottle on a shelf says that bitter was made here, which an anonymous bottle does not say. That is the test for filling it: in goes what you have something to say about.
