The parisienne shaker 550ml in two lines
The Chrono is the two piece shaker of 550ml in 18/10 stainless steel, 225mm tall and 350 grams in weight, in five finishes: black, silver, gold, copper and bronze. Body and cap, with no strainer built in.
Who it is for
For anyone working in front of the guest on single drinks. Five hundred and fifty millilitres is the capacity of one cocktail with its ice, so this is a precise, manageable shaker rather than a large one: it sits in one hand, chills quickly and does not ask for the two handed grip that the 900ml formats need.
Five finishes, and how to choose
Black disappears on a dark bar and throws back no spotlight; silver is the neutral choice that goes with any kit; gold, copper and bronze are warm finishes that come alive under low amber light, the light of an evening cocktail bar, and go flat under a cold one. The practical rule is to choose the finish of the Chrono by looking at the light in your own venue and not at the catalogue: the same copper that reads warm in a photograph goes dull under a white strip light.

The plated finishes do not go in the dishwasher
This is the one real warning on the piece, and the supplier states it: hot cycles and industrial detergents attack the outer coating, which goes patchy and does not come back. The black, gold, copper and bronze Chrono is washed by hand with mild soap and dried straight away. The silver version is different, because it is bare 18/10 stainless with nothing plated over it, and it takes a normal cycle without precautions.
It needs a strainer
The parisienne has no filter: after the shake the cap comes off and the drink goes through a hawthorne strainer set on the mouth. For drinks that have to be served clear, a fine strainer goes over the glass as well. Those are two accessories to count in alongside the shaker, and they cost far less than it does.
Three hundred and fifty grams in the hand
The empty weight tells you how it behaves full. Three hundred and fifty grams is a mass you feel without being tired by it, and with 550ml of drink and ice inside you stay under a kilo: that is the limit within which a one handed shake stays accurate. Above it the movement wants two hands, and the 900ml formats in the same family ask for exactly that.
How it closes and how it opens
The cap of a parisienne seals by friction over a wide band, not by the angled wedge of two tins: it goes on straight and gets pressed, without forcing. To open it you do not strike it, because on a plated piece a knock leaves a mark: hold the body in one hand and turn the cap a few degrees with the other, and the grip lets go. It is a softer movement than the Boston, and it is also why this shaker gets used in the room.
