The Bomber cobbler shaker in two lines
The Bomber is a three-piece cobbler shaker of 500ml (17oz) in 18/10 stainless steel: 21cm tall, 340g, with a rounded body and five finishes. Built-in strainer and cap, like every cobbler.
Who it is for
For bartenders who want a cobbler that stands apart from the standard shape. The rounded outline is what defines it, and it has a practical side: a body that widens halfway gives the ice more room to move, and in a shaker it is the movement of the ice that chills and dilutes.
The rounded body and the ice
A straight cylinder makes the cubes travel up and down along the same path. A body that widens halfway lets them turn sideways as well, so the contact surface between ice and liquid grows and the drink reaches serving temperature sooner. It is a small, real gain, and it shows on cocktails that need a short shake, where every second less is dilution saved. The Bomber is designed around this.

500ml, one drink
It is the single-serve size: one cocktail with its ice, nothing more. A double order needs a second shake, and bartenders who often work in pairs prefer a 700 or 900ml size. In return, a 500ml cobbler chills faster, fits in one hand and sticks less, because there is less cold mass contracting the metal.
The cap, and how to stop it sticking
The weak point of the cobbler family is a cap that tightens in the cold. It happens less on this size than on the large ones, but the rule holds: do not screw it down hard when closing, because the contracting metal makes the seal anyway, and if it sticks, warm the top with your hand for a moment rather than forcing it.
Washing by finish
Silver is bare 18/10 stainless steel with no plating, and it can go in the dishwasher. Black, gold, copper and bronze are plated, and a dishwasher dulls them in patches, so wash those by hand with mild soap. Whatever the finish, wash the three pieces separately and dry them before putting them back together, so no water is trapped between strainer and cap. Looked after this way, a Bomber stays like new for years.
17oz, with room for a US pint
500ml is about 17 US fl oz. The US pint that American recipe books refer to is 16oz, or 473ml: the Bomber holds it with a couple of centilitres to spare. When an original spec calls for a one-pint shaker, this size covers it.
FAQ
How much does the Bomber cobbler hold? 500ml (17oz): one cocktail with its ice.
Do I need a strainer? No, the strainer is built in. For a fine strain, add a mesh strainer.
Why the rounded body? It gives the ice more room to move, and the movement is what chills the drink.
Is it dishwasher safe? Silver is: it is bare 18/10 stainless steel, with no plating. Black, gold, copper and bronze are plated and hand wash only.
Can it be used for table service? Yes, and that is the advantage of the cobbler family: it works on its own, with no other tool needed to strain.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
