The Friendly finger food bowls: size and material
The Friendly finger food bowls by APS are round and white, with a 7.5cm diameter, a 3.5cm height and a 50ml capacity. The material is post-consumer recycled PET. They are stackable and dishwasher safe, and they are sold in a pack of 6.
Who they are for
For anyone serving bar food in single portions, at the table or on a buffet. With a shared bowl the first guest takes enough for three and the last one finds the bottom. With a single portion every guest gets the same amount, and the kitchen knows in advance how many portions come out of a kilo of product.
The caterer and the events company need them for another reason: weight and breakage. Two hundred porcelain dishes in a crate are heavy and arrive chipped. These are rigid plastic, they stack and they travel in the crate with no paper between one and the next.

What goes in 50ml finger food bowls
As a guide to use: a portion of olives or nuts for one, a seafood salad of two forkfuls, a cube of baked aubergine, a savoury mousse. The 7.5cm opening lets a small fork and the fingers in, which a narrow bowl does not.
Of the three 50ml shapes in the range this is the widest and the lowest. It is the one to pick when the contents need to be seen from above, on a buffet or a passed tray, and when the guest eats straight from the bowl.

Recycled PET, for the floor and for the van
APS declares post-consumer recycled PET for the Friendly collection. It is plastic that has had a first use, has been recovered and has come back as tableware, and it can be recycled again at the end of its life. On the floor the point is that it is rigid plastic and not porcelain or glass: a bowl that slides off a tray between tables is picked up and washed. Nobody looks for shards under the chairs or fetches the broom.
The saving shows on the monthly count as well. Small porcelain is the piece a venue loses most, chipped in the rack or thrown out with the napkins. A PET bowl costs less to replace. Friendly is a continuing range in the APS catalogue, and in eight months the same shape is reordered under the same code.
Care
According to the manufacturer the bowls are dishwasher safe and not suitable for the microwave. They are not designed for heating, so a hot item is warmed elsewhere and plated afterwards. They nest one inside the other between washes, as APS also declares, and a stack on the back bar takes the footprint of one bowl.
The pack of 6 and the numbers for an event
The finger food bowls are sold in sixes, and the price is for the pack. For a buffet, count one bowl per guest for each item served as a single portion: fifty guests and two items make a hundred bowls, which is seventeen packs. For table service, keep twice the number of seats.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 packs -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item. The discount applies automatically in the basket.
White or black
White is the neutral background of a buffet: it does not alter the colour of what it holds and it sits with a pale tablecloth. The same bowl comes in black, and alternating the two colours on a tray helps separate two different items. For the garnish station on the bar there are the trays in the garnish trays and condiment holders category.
At home
For a standing supper or drinks on the terrace, the bowls let you prepare everything ahead: fill them, put them on a tray in the fridge and take them out when the guests arrive. Nobody has to help themselves from a shared bowl.
