Leather bartender bag: a roll in leather with triple closure and handle, twenty one pieces inside, 21 x 51 x 21cm for 4.6kg fully loaded. Black or brown.
Who it is for
For anyone who carries their own kit and wants it seen that it is their own. The set covers both shaking and stirring, so you arrive on site without having to ask anyone for anything.
The leather bartender bag is the bag of someone working away from their own venue: consultancy, receptions, trade fairs, weddings, nights on call. Anyone who stays behind the same bar every night has less reason to spend this much on carrying what is already in the drawer.
Behind the bar
What separates it from a basic bag is deliberate redundancy. There are four different strainers, not one: standard hawthorne, deluxe hawthorne, julep and fine cone. There are three bar spoons with different ends and three jiggers in different sizes.
It is not quantity for the sake of the count. It is the set of someone who changes tool according to the drink instead of adapting the drink to the tool. With four strainers you fine strain without stopping to rinse in the middle of an order, and at peak service the seconds saved on each drink are the difference between keeping up and stacking tickets.
Same logic on the three jiggers: working from specs of 15, 20 and 45ml means never measuring twice in the same cone to reach the dose.
The leather, and what it weighs
The leather on this bag weighs, and that is worth knowing before ordering: 4.6kg fully loaded. Anyone moving on foot or by underground feels it on the shoulder, anyone loading a car does not.
In exchange it is the material that best survives ten years of opening and closing. Fabric frays on the fold of the closure where the stitching runs; leather in that spot simply marks, and the mark becomes part of how it sits. The roll then wraps around itself instead of staying a rigid box filled halfway: carry twelve pieces one day instead of twenty one and the bag closes around what is there.
The triple closure is there for that. It is not a lock, it is what holds the roll still when the bag travels upright in a boot and the tools inside are not to move.
When the guest sees the bag
At a reception or on a consultancy job you build the bar yourself, and the first thing whoever hired you looks at is where the kit comes out of. A sports holdall on the floor and a leather roll open on the worktop tell two different prices for the same drink.
It is the one point where the material counts as much as the contents. Not because leather pours better, but because the client is looking at it while deciding whether to call you back next season.
What the leather bartender bag holds
- Shaking and mixing: cobbler 800ml, Yarai mixing glass 700ml
- Straining: hawthorne strainer, hawthorne deluxe, julep, fine cone strainer
- Measuring: three jiggers, small, medium and large
- Bar spoons: Trident XL, Hoffman XL, Disc
- Service: four pourers, bottle opener, citrus squeezer, ergonomic muddler, two sleeve garters
- Bag: leather, 21 x 51 x 21cm, 4.6kg, black or brown
Twenty one pieces counted, not rounded up: the list adds to exactly twenty one.
Black or brown
Black disappears on the bar top and does not compete with what stands on it. Brown shows, and on a wooden counter or in a venue with warm light it photographs better.
The leather bartender bag is ordered in either finish. Only the colour of the leather changes, the set inside is the same: twenty one pieces on black and on brown.
Choose this one if
You work events and the guest sees the bag, or you need the set complete from day one without assembling six orders from different suppliers and finding out halfway through that the julep is missing.
Leave it if you are after the lightest thing to carry: loaded it comes to 4.6kg, and on foot you feel all of it. In that case look at the professional roll bag, which carries on a shoulder strap, or the rest of the bartender bags in the catalogue.
Care
The leather on this bag should be kept away from damp. If it gets wet it dries in the air, never on a radiator: direct heat hardens it and then it cracks on the folds, which is where the bag works every day.
A neutral cream twice a year keeps it from drying out where the closure bends. Tools go back in dry, because a mixing glass put away still damp leaves a mark on the leather that never comes out.
If you work a lot with citrus, rinse strainers and jiggers before they go back in the roll: acid reaches the spring of a strainer before it reaches the steel body, and the spring is the first part anyone replaces.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
