The 1000ml conical flask in brief
The Bars 1000ml flask is a laboratory conical flask in borosilicate 3.3 glass, with a narrow neck, a scale printed on the wall and a cork stopper. On the side there is a frosted panel you can write on in pencil. Borosilicate 3.3 is the glass that withstands sudden changes of temperature, the same used for laboratory glassware.
Who it is for
Bars that prep ahead. Syrups, infusions, cordials, tinctures and batched drinks are made before service and need a container that does not pass on smells and can be labelled: the frosted panel is for that, and it rubs clean when the contents change. A litre is a batch of twenty short drinks.
It also suits bars that bring the prep out front. The flask is a recognisable object, and a batched Negroni poured from a graduated flask shows the work behind it without anyone having to explain.

Why borosilicate and not ordinary glass
Borosilicate 3.3 expands very little with heat, so it withstands the move from hot to cold that cracks ordinary glass. Behind the bar that happens every day: a syrup is dissolved hot and left to cool, an infusion is made above 60°C, a cordial comes out of the fridge and is topped up. With ordinary glass each of those is a chance for a crack, and a crack in a litre container full of syrup means redoing the prep.
The conical shape is not for looks. The wide base keeps the flask upright even on a wet surface, and the narrow neck lets you swirl the liquid with a turn of the wrist without spilling: the move used to dissolve sugar or mix a batch before pouring.

The cork stopper, and when to use it
Cork closes well and lets an infusion in progress breathe as much as it needs. It is not an airtight seal: for an acid cordial kept in the fridge for days, move it to a screw-cap bottle, while for prep that comes out during service cork is handier, because it comes off with one hand.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
How many to keep
Two, if batching is house practice. While one flask is in service, the second holds tomorrow’s prep in the fridge, and the shift change does not have to decant anything. The code stays in the maker’s catalogue, so a replacement arrives identical, with the same scale and frosted panel.
The 1000ml flask alongside the others
The same glass comes in two smaller sizes: the 500ml flask for the day’s syrups and the 150ml flask for tinctures. Bottles, droppers and graduated containers are in the molecular mixology accessories category.
Care
Wash with hot water and mild detergent, using a bottle brush for the narrow neck. Rinse syrup out straight away, before sugar dries in the base of the cone. Wash the cork separately and let it air-dry before putting it back, so it stays free of smells.
FAQ
How much does the 1000ml flask hold? One litre, a batch of about twenty short drinks.
Can it take hot liquid? Yes, borosilicate 3.3 is the glass that withstands sudden temperature changes.
Is the scale accurate? It is an approximate scale, fine for measuring prep, not for laboratory titration.
Is the stopper airtight? No, it is cork: it closes, but for long storage a screw-cap bottle is better.
