The swan glass in two lines
The swan glass is a stemmed piece in clear borosilicate glass, blown by hand. From the rim of the bowl a swan’s neck rises and bends in an arch over the opening, with the head turned down. It is sold as a decorative item.
The shape of the swan glass
The bowl is the body of the swan, the stem and foot are the water it floats on. The neck is a thread of glass that leaves the rim, rises and curves into an arch: it is the gesture of a swan bowing its head, and it gives the piece its line.
The swan glass is the most classic piece in the family, the subject seen for generations in Murano glass and in wedding favours. Entirely clear, it reads by the drawing of the neck more than by its volume.
Where the swan glass goes
Its natural place is weddings and receptions: a swan glass in the centre of each table, or two side by side with the necks turned towards each other on the top table. For Valentine’s Day, on the back bar or in the window, it sets the theme without paper hearts.
On the back-bar shelves it sits well on a step lit from behind, where the arch of the neck lights up along its edge. On the photo and video sets of a venue or an events space it is the piece that says elegance without a caption.
For collectors and as a gift
For collectors of barware it is the most traditional subject in the family. As a wedding or anniversary gift it works as a pair, and two pieces blown by hand will never be identical.

Hand-blown borosilicate glass
The swan glass is made from clear borosilicate glass, blown by hand. It is the glass of lampwork, the technique that draws glass into thin threads, curves and details that ordinary tableware glass cannot hold. Blown by hand also means each piece has small differences in its curves and thickness: two pieces side by side are not identical to the millimetre, and that is the mark of the work.
Clear glass works with the light behind it. In front of a backlit back bar or under a display spotlight the outline lights up at the edges; on a black background, in a photo, it becomes a drawing.
Where the swan glass is displayed
The swan glass belongs to the family of decorative glasses in hand-blown glass. Its place is the back bar, the window display, the centrepiece, the set: whoever fits out a venue or an event puts it where it is seen.
For a display with several identical pieces the site’s rule applies. The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, on the same item. The discount applies automatically in the basket.
Care
Lift it by the bowl or the stem, never by the neck, which is the thinnest thread of glass in the piece. A dry microfibre cloth is enough for dust.
