The bird glass in two lines
The bird glass is a stemmed piece in clear borosilicate glass, blown by hand, with the bowl modelled as a bird: the beak on one side, the tail on the other, the body in the middle. It stands on a stem with a foot. It is sold as a decorative item.
The shape of the bird glass
The body of the bird is the bowl. On one side the glass stretches into the beak, on the other it rises into the tail; below, the stem is the leg and the foot is the perch. The result is a small bird sitting on a glass branch, recognisable from a distance by its outline.
Being entirely clear, the bird glass changes with the background: in front of a green wall it looks as if it were in a garden, in front of the bottles it takes on their colours.
Where the bird glass goes
For a spring display, a garden party or an outdoor event, a few bird glasses on the back bar or among the plants on the terrace set the theme without anything else. On the back-bar shelves it goes on a step of its own, where the outline does not overlap the labels.
On photo sets it is a prop you move and turn in a moment: beak to camera or in profile, depending on the shot. As a centrepiece for weddings and receptions with a botanical theme, use one per table, or two facing each other.
For collectors and as a gift
For collectors of novelty glasses or glass animals it is a gentle piece, without the horror register of other subjects in the same family. It suits a housewarming gift, or someone with a bar corner in the living room.

Hand-blown borosilicate glass
The bird glass is made from clear borosilicate glass, blown by hand. It is the glass of lampwork, the technique that draws glass into thin threads, curves and details that ordinary tableware glass cannot hold. Blown by hand also means each piece has small differences in its curves and thickness: two pieces side by side are not identical to the millimetre, and that is the mark of the work.
Clear glass works with the light behind it. In front of a backlit back bar or under a display spotlight the outline lights up at the edges; on a black background, in a photo, it becomes a drawing.
Where the bird glass is displayed
The bird glass belongs to the family of decorative glasses in hand-blown glass. Its place is the back bar, the window display, the centrepiece, the set: whoever fits out a venue or an event puts it where it is seen.
For a display with several identical pieces the site’s rule applies. The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, on the same item. The discount applies automatically in the basket.
Care
Hold it by the stem or the body, without levering on the beak and the tail, which are the thinnest points. A dry microfibre cloth is enough for dust.
