The Soul collins glass in two lines

Why the diameter counts more than the capacity
Carbon dioxide leaves through the surface in contact with the air. For the same volume, a tall narrow glass exposes far less surface than a wide low one: the mouth is small, so the way out is narrow. Seven centimetres of diameter over fifteen of height is a decidedly slender proportion, and on a gin and tonic it turns into bubbles that last as long as the drinking instead of disappearing before halfway. Cold helps in the same direction, because it holds the gas in solution: plenty of ice from the start is not a flourish, it is what holds the drink together.

Choose the Soul collins if
Drinks with soda are the heart of the service. If instead you work mostly on muddled drinks, where you need room for the muddler and the mint, a wider mouth makes the job easier.
The right ice for a narrow column
In a glass 7cm across a large cube does not go in, and small cubes melt too fast because they expose so much surface. The answer is the spear: a long block that drops in straight, fills the glass in height and has less exposed surface than a handful of cubes of the same volume. It is the ice format born for exactly this glass shape.
Care
Dishwasher with no precautions. On a tall narrow column a brush is needed more than on a wide glass when you work with dense juices or syrups: the base is far away and the machine jet does not always reach it with the same force.
The diameter and the bar spoon
Seven centimetres is a narrow column, and anyone building drinks in the glass notices straight away: the bar spoon works well vertically but has little side margin, so stirring a glass full of ice asks for a more controlled movement. In exchange you get the carbonation held. On a service of gin and tonics and whisky and soda that is a good trade; on a service of muddled drinks a wider mouth suits better.
