Glass Washing Brush, Three Nylon Heads, Suction Base

For anyone with a glass washer who thinks that is enough. It is the commonest misunderstanding behind a bar: the machine washes, but it does not lift dried residue. Crystallised sugar in the base, fruit pulp, egg white, milk and cream survive the cycle and stay on the clean glass, where they show at the first look against the light. The pre-wash is what takes them off.

A professional glass washer runs in a very short time, often between ninety and a hundred and twenty seconds, with jets that hit the surface but do not scrub. On fresh soil that is enough; on dried, stuck soil it is not, because the mechanical action is missing. Choose the glass washing brush if

You work with syrups, fruit, egg white or milk. If the bar serves only spirits and bottled soft drinks, the machine cycle on its own covers almost everything and this stays optional.

The three sizes, and what they are for

They are not a flourish. The large head covers tumblers and long drink glasses, the medium one the rocks glasses, the small one shot glasses and narrow necks, which are the pieces a hand does not go into and where the machine jet reaches worst. Having the three sizes fixed on the top means not swapping tools between one glass and the next, which in a pre-wash made of gestures repeated dozens of times is the whole gain.

The suction cups, and why they count

A pre-wash is done one handed: the other hand holds the glass. If the brush is not fixed it slides on the wet top and the job becomes two handed, which is twice the time. Four suction cups on a smooth clean surface hold the tool still enough to push and turn without thinking about it. They want a non porous surface with no residue, or they will not grip: it is the one thing this tool asks for.

Care

Rinse it at the end of the shift and leave it to dry, because a brush left wet and sugary becomes the least clean point on the bar. Nylon takes hot water and ordinary detergents. Look over the bristles now and then: when they splay and stay bent they have lost the mechanical action, and that is the moment to replace it.

Where it goes

The brush is fixed where the dirty glasses arrive, not where there is room: usually next to the sink, before the loading area of the machine. If it sits away from the flow it does not get used, and a brush that does not get used does nothing. The suction cups want a smooth clean top, so the position follows the surface available as well.
