The black enamel mug in two lines
The black enamel mug is a 450ml vessel in black enamelled steel, built for long drinks served on crushed ice. Same construction as the white version, opposite colour, and on these objects the colour is not only a matter of taste.
Who it is for
For anyone who wants the frost to show. On a black surface the condensation that forms when the contents are iced stands out far more sharply than on a white one: the pale veil on the dark body is visible from the other side of the table, and it tells the guest the drink is cold before they touch it. It is the same principle by which a dark bottle straight out of the fridge looks colder than a pale one.
The enamel, and what comes with it
Enamel is a glassy layer fused onto the metal, and it insulates more than bare metal: the frost still forms, but more slowly and less dramatically than on uncoated steel or copper. In exchange the wall does not freeze under your fingers and the mug can be picked up by the body without discomfort, which on a vessel with no handle is a practical difference. Enamel is also hard and takes knocks: dropped, it does not break, at worst it chips and shows the metal underneath.

Choose the black enamel mug if
You serve iced drinks and you want the chill to be seen. If the venue has a pale palette or a dark table the black would disappear against, the white version of the same line stands out more.
Black or white: how to decide
On the contrast with the table, before taste comes into it. On dark wood or a black steel bar counter a black mug merges into the surface and the service loses definition; on a pale table it stands out and shows the frost at its best. The practical rule is to look at the surfaces in the room and pick the colour that contrasts, which is the same criterion used for coasters and mats.
Four hundred and fifty millilitres of crushed ice
As on every vessel meant for crushed ice, the stated capacity has to be read knowing the ice takes up much of the volume. Filled properly, the mug serves around 200 to 250ml of liquid, and the rest is crushed ice loaded up into a dome above the rim. Less crushed ice means a drink that warms sooner and waters down at once, because fine ice melts fast and has to be made up for with quantity.
Care
Water and mild soap, with no abrasive sponges, which leave marks on enamel. Knocks on the rim are where chipping starts: if it happens, dry the exposed metal carefully so it does not rust. Otherwise it is one of the toughest vessels in the catalogue.
FAQ
Does the black enamel mug show the frost better than the white one? Yes, the pale veil on the dark body shows far more.
How much liquid goes in? Around 200 to 250ml: the rest of the volume is crushed ice.
Can it be held by the body? Yes, the enamel insulates enough to keep your fingers from freezing.
Does the black fade? Enamel is a glassy layer: it does not fade, it chips if anything.
Is it right for hot drinks? Metal carries the heat and there is no handle: cold drinks are the better use.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 packs -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
