The copper mule mug in two lines
This copper mule mug is made of copper-plated steel, 12 x 11 x 10cm, weighing 200g. Steel is the structure and copper is the outer finish: the standard construction of bar mugs.
Who it is for
For bars that want the look of copper with the strength of steel. A mug built this way is light, does not dent like a soft metal, and has an interior that reacts with nothing. On a mug that goes round a whole evening service, those three things count for more than the purity of the metal.
Plated does not mean second best
It is the most common misunderstanding about these mugs. The plating is not there to save copper: it is there because bare copper should not be in contact with an acidic drink like the Moscow Mule. The FDA Food Code advises against contact between copper and drinks below pH 6.0, and a mule with lime and ginger beer sits around 2.7. Steel inside and copper outside solves that and keeps what copper was wanted for: how it carries the cold, and how it looks.

Choose this mug if
You want the classic mule mug in a light, sturdy version. For high-volume service where everything goes through the dishwasher, the enamel mugs in the same category are easier to live with.
200g, and why weight matters
A light mug is easier to carry on a full tray and less tiring for staff over a long evening, but it also feels less solid to the guest than a heavy one. Each venue settles that its own way: for long table service, light wins; at a bar where guests pick up the mug themselves, presence wins. 200g sits on the practical side.
How a Moscow Mule is built
Ice to the rim first, because the mug chills from the ice, not by itself. Then vodka, fresh lime juice and ginger beer poured over, stirred lightly so the bubbles survive. Mint or a lime wheel goes on top of the ice. Serve straight away and hold it by the handle: the metal that carries the cold to the hand also carries the warmth of the hand to the drink.
Condensation on table service
Metal mugs sweat, and glass does less of it. A mug covered in condensation wets the tray and the coasters, so on table service put an absorbent coaster underneath. It is the physics of a metal that reaches the temperature of the drink in seconds.
Care
Hand wash with mild soap and dry straight away to keep the copper finish bright. The dishwasher oxidises the outer plating, and once the colour has gone it does not come back.
