The vintage steel Moscow Mule mug in two lines
The Bars vintage steel mug is a 450ml mug in stainless steel with the finish the maker calls vintage: a matt grey satin that is not paint and does not come off. The handle is steel and the rim is rolled. The pack holds three mugs, the unit in which The Bars sells it.
Who it is for
For the bar serving the Moscow Mule, the Kentucky Mule, the Dark ‘n’ Stormy and crushed ice long drinks that wants a mug that does not look straight out of the box. Mirror-polished steel shows every fingerprint after the first round at the bar; a matt satin finish does not, and stays presentable during the rush, when nobody has time to wipe between drinks. In venues fitted out in wood, iron and brick, it is the mug that goes with everything else.
At home it is the mug for a Sunday Moscow Mule, with frost on the metal as at the bar and no copper to polish.

Why the vintage steel mug is chosen for the Mule
The Moscow Mule was born in a metal mug for a practical reason: metal carries the cold of the ice to the wall, the wall frosts, and the guest recognises the drink before tasting it. Steel does the same job as copper, with two advantages at the bar. It does not react with lime and ginger, so it needs no inner lining. And it does not oxidise, so it does not need polishing every week to stop it going dark.
Four hundred and fifty millilitres is the size that holds a Mule’s spirit, the ginger beer and crushed ice to the rim without the drink looking short. With cubed ice there is room for the lime wedge and the sprig of mint.

Three mugs, one table
The Bars only sells this mug in boxes of three, and so do we: three mugs are a round for a table of three, and a bar that wants twelve for its Mule menu takes four packs. They all come from the same batch, with the same satin finish, and in eight months the same mug is still in the maker’s catalogue: if one disappears from the bar, you replace it with the same one.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 packs -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item. The discount applies automatically in the basket.
The vintage steel mug alongside the others
The same shape comes in black, and the range also has a white enamel mug. The vintage is the one that sits best next to the Boston shaker and the strainer in the same finish: The Bars Vintage collection has the same satin on shakers, jiggers, bar spoons and strainers, so the bar stays one colour. If you want polished metal, see the rest of the Moscow Mule category.
Care
Wash it as you would steel: hot water, neutral detergent, and dry. No abrasive scourers, which leave shiny lines on the satin. The maker does not declare it dishwasher safe in this finish: hand washing is the safe route.
FAQ
Is the vintage steel mug painted? No. The vintage finish is a satin treatment of the steel: the colour is that of the worked metal.
How many mugs are in the pack? Three, and the price is per pack.
Does it work for a Moscow Mule? Yes, 450ml holds the recipe with crushed ice to the rim.
Does lime mark it? No, stainless steel does not react with citrus.
