The smoking cloche in two lines
This is the glass smoking cloche, with a valve at the top that takes the hose of the smoking gun: it fills with smoke and covers the drink or the plate.
Who it is for
For bars that smoke drinks seriously. Without a cloche the smoke disperses into the air in a few seconds, and the aroma that reaches the drink is a fraction of what the gun produces: the glass is what turns a cloud into a smoked serve.
Two jobs, and they are different
The first is technical: under the glass cloche the smoke stays on the surface of the drink long enough to give up its aroma, and one or two minutes is enough. The second is about service: the cloche goes to the table full and is lifted in front of the guest, who sees the smoke rise before the first sip. It is the one moment when a cocktail is watched rather than simply handed over.

Specifications
- Material: glass
- Fitting: valve for the smoking gun hose
- Use: cold smoking drinks and food
The valve is the detail that counts
It lets you insert the hose without lifting the cloche, so the smoke builds up inside instead of escaping from the rim while it fills. Without a valve you have to lift the glass, put the hose in and lower it again, and in those three seconds half the smoke is gone. That is the difference between a cloche made for the job and any old cover.
What goes underneath
The finished drink, for the effect at the table. The empty glass turned upside down, to flavour the walls before the drink is built, which is the more refined route because the aroma supports the drink rather than taking over. Ice, which absorbs the smoke and releases it slowly. And solid ingredients, from citrus peel to dried fruit, which take on aroma in a couple of minutes under the glass cloche.
Glass and the show
A clear cloche lets the guest see the smoke before it is released, and that is what makes the moment stick: the cloud stays dense and visible inside the glass, then rises and fades into the room. Under an opaque cover the smoke does the same technical job but nothing can be seen, and half the reason for smoking in front of the guest disappears. Here the choice of material is a choice about service.
The right time
One or two minutes, then lift. Smoke left longer adds no more aroma: it starts to deposit the heavier compounds of combustion, the bitter ones, and the drink picks up a note of ash. Anyone smoking for the first time leaves it too long, and that is the mistake to correct before any other.
Care
Hand wash in hot water with a mild detergent: smoke leaves an oily film on the glass that shows against the light and, as it builds up, dulls the cloche at the very moment you show it to the guest. Rinse the valve separately, because that is where the residue gathers.
The more you buy, the less you pay: 4 pieces -5%, 6 -7%, 8 -10%, on the same item.
FAQ
What is the valve for? It takes the smoking gun hose without lifting the glass cloche, so the smoke stays in.
How long should the drink stay under it? One or two minutes: beyond that the smoke leaves a bitter note.
Can I use it without a smoking gun? You need a source of smoke: the cloche holds it, it does not make it.
Can I smoke the empty glass? Yes, and it is the more refined route: the aroma stays on the walls.
How do I clean it? By hand: smoke leaves an oily film that is best removed straight away.
Smoking guns and wood chips are in the cocktail smoking category.
