The tamper stand in two lines
The stainless steel tamper stand is the rest the tamper sits on between one tamp and the next: 58mm inside diameter, 70mm across the rim, for tampers up to 58mm. It is the version of the wooden stand that washes with no precautions.
Who it is for
For anyone who puts everything in the dishwasher at the end of the shift and does not want to think about it. In a coffee bar doing numbers, any piece that needs cleaning differently from the rest is a piece that sooner or later stays dirty: steel removes the problem because it follows the same cycle as jugs, baskets and spoons.
The 70mm rim is not a matter of looks
Between the two versions of the same stand what changes is the rim: 65mm on the wooden one, 70 on this. Five millimetres more means a wider bearing base for the same recess, so a piece that stays put when the tamper is set down sideways or in a hurry. On a bar where everything is done with one hand while the other is busy, the tamper stand that does not shift at the first knock is the one still in its place halfway through service.

Why the tamper face should not sit on the bar
The face that tamps is the last surface to touch the grounds before water passes through them. Left in contact with the bar top it picks up the grains that fell from the grinder, and those end up in the next basket: the bed goes uneven, the water finds the easy route and the coffee runs out of balance. A stand keeps that face in the air and settles the matter without asking anyone for discipline.
Choose the tamper stand if
You wash everything in the dishwasher, the bar is in steel and you want the materials to match, or the station is used by several people across different shifts. If instead the bar is in timber and the look matters, the wooden version does the same job with a warmer appearance and a little more care at the wash.
Stainless steel on a coffee station
It does not rust in the constant damp of the steam, it does not hold coffee oils the way porous surfaces do and it takes on no smells. Those are the three reasons almost everything you touch on a coffee station is steel, from the portafilter to the jug to the knock box, and why a steel accessory lasts as long as the bar does.
It costs little and it shows at once
It is among the least expensive accessories on the whole coffee station and one of the few used on every single coffee. The right way to judge it is not the price but the number of times your hand passes through it in a day: over two hundred coffees that is two hundred movements always ending in the same spot rather than wherever, and that is how a bar stays tidy even at peak.
