The latte art pen in two lines
The latte art pen is a stainless steel stylus with two different ends: a needle on one side for drawing, and a small paddle on the other for lifting milk foam or coffee to use as colour. The handle is covered in blue rubber, which grips even with damp hands.
Who it is for
For anyone who wants to draw on a cappuccino without depending on the pour alone. Latte art built with the jug takes months of practice and forgives nothing on badly steamed milk; with the stylus you work the surface once the pour is done, and you get precise figures even when there is no time to train.
Etching and free pouring, two different crafts
A poured design comes out of the movement of the jug and is bound to the physics of the foam: what you get is what the steaming allows. Etching starts instead from a base already poured and works on top of it with the needle, dragging coffee into the white or white into the coffee. The latte art pen is for that, and for topping art and writing on the surface. The rule that always holds: etching finishes a good base, it does not rescue foam full of large bubbles.

The paddle is the end nobody looks at
It lifts a small amount of dense foam from the jug, or of crema from the cup, and puts it down where it is wanted: it is how you add a solid white dot or a dark drop without disturbing the drawing around it. Without that end you reach for a teaspoon, which picks up too much and marks the rim.
Choose the latte art pen if
You want to personalise cappuccinos with writing and hearts, you work in a coffee bar where the photograph a guest takes counts as advertising, or you are learning and want a recognisable result while the pour improves. It is also the tool for writing a name or a greeting on a cup, which is the gesture guests remember longer than the coffee.
It has to be used at once
The useful window for etching is a few seconds: freshly poured, the surface is still fluid and the needle draws a clean line, while after half a minute the foam starts to set and the mark tears instead of running. So keep the stylus already in your hand or resting next to the cup, not in a drawer: fetch it and you arrive late.
Care
Rinse it straight away, because dried milk on a fine needle turns into a crust that then has to be scraped off, and dry it before putting it away. The rubber covering is the part to treat with most care: wash it by hand and do not leave it to soak.
