Whisky smoking sawdust in two lines
Lacor Smokey whisky smoking sawdust is a wood sawdust, finer than chips, which the maker states is 99.9% pure. The bag holds 100 grams. It is loaded into the burn chamber of the smoke infuser and gives the smoke to cold smoke a drink or a dish. It is sold singly.
Who it is for
For a bar trying out a smoked drink before putting it on the list. A hundred grams of smoking sawdust is the trial format: open a bag, work for a few weeks on contact time and on the glass, and decide whether the drink stays. If it stays, move to the large format. If it does not, there is no half kilo of opened sawdust left in the store.
It suits the venue that smokes only on request, an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan at the table now and then, and anyone who keeps several types in rotation and does not want a large pack of each.
At home it is the right format: anyone with a Lacor smoke infuser who smokes a Sunday drink uses little, and a small bag stays dry to the end.

How a drink is smoked
Load a pinch of sawdust into the burn chamber of the smoke infuser, light it and take the smoke where it is needed. At the bar there are two routes. The first is the cloche: the finished drink goes under the glass, the smoke fills the cloche and it is served at the table, where the guest watches it lifted. The second is the covered glass: fill the empty glass with smoke, cover it with a coaster and pour the drink when the order comes in.
In both cases contact lasts one or two minutes. Beyond that the smoke covers the spirit and the drink comes back. This is cold smoking: the smoke scents, it does not heat and it does not cook.
Why whisky
Lacor sells the smoking sawdust in this range in six types: olive, orange, lemon, almond, whisky and cognac. For the whisky type Lacor does not state the starting wood or how the aroma is obtained, and we do not write it. Behind the bar it is used on drinks built on whisky and aged rum, where the smoke carries on a note the spirit already has.
What Lacor states
The maker describes it as special wood sawdust with 99.9% purity. It states a dense smoke and a slow burn at low temperature, which leaves a delicate aroma on the food. It also states compliance with the regulations for food contact use. The content is given in grams on the maker’s website.
Which smoke infusers it is used with
Lacor states compatibility with its own smoke infusers: the Magic (reference 69221) and the Instant (reference 69321). For devices from other brands the maker states nothing, and we do not write it in its place: the grain is that of a sawdust, and every device says in its manual which grain it takes. Anyone with a different smoke infuser should check there before ordering.

FAQ
